Style File – 29 Feb 2012 (Leap Year)

Thanks to my friend, I had a leap year badge on foursquare today because I checked in and wrote Leap Year.

When I announced it to the Husband, he said “yay” sarcastically. Well.. the badge clearly means nothing. But why do I try to collect them?

I don’t even know the answer, it is just nice to see my badges on Foursquare I guess.. and it reminds of good times in girls scouts.

Anyway this is what I was wearing to work today:

Style File – 28 Feb 2012 (Miss the Chat)

My girl friend left to Sydney today. I miss her already. It was a great few days catch up. We certainly stayed up late.

On Friday night we stayed up until 5 am, on Saturday night until 3 am, only until midnight on Sunday night and until 1 am on Monday night.

I feel really flattered and glad that she came all the way from Singapore just to visit me in Canberra. It feels so good to catch up with each other’s life.

We haven’t met in person for around 6 years. Well we do e-mail, chat on GTalk and sometime talk on Skype, but it’s not the same as a real face to face catch up.

What is it about friendship that even though we haven’t meet for a long time, once we meet again it’s as if time stopped a while and it’s all like the old days once more.

Today I was wearing:

– belt from Cole Haan

Style File – 27 Feb 2012 (Nil Idea)

I don’t know what to write here. Nothing really came up to my mind. I remember when I wrote my masters thesis, I venedt to my supervisor that I read too much until my back was sore from too much sitting down. Then I feel like my head was full of new knowledge but I didn’t know what should I write or where should I began.

My supervisor told me to write down anything that came into to my mind. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make any correlation with my previous writing. He told me that I just had to keep writing then I need to reread again and rewrite it on the other day.

The advised seemed to work. Now, I’m glad that I’ve finished the 20,000 words thesis.

Most of my friends whom I met from my masters classes both in NUS & ANU are still yearning for more writing. Some of them continue on to PhD, others do other masters degree.

Maybe once they get the knack of writing, they just can’t stop anymore and keep going.

Anyway, this is what I was wearing today:

Style File – 26 Feb 2012 (Dancing Away)

There are more lovely moments happening today than most days.

I slept in and had breakfast at ONA Coffee in Manuka for the first time. It was nice to have my girlfriend to share the morning with. We chatted about many things and made time fly by quickly.

In the afternoon, the husband & I took my girlfriend to Tidbinbilla nature reserve and saw many beautiful creatures around. We saw Emu, Roos with joeys, black swans, blue wren birds and many others.

This is what I wore to the nature reserve park earlier:

In the evening, I went to a girlfriend’s birthday party at Digress in Canberra city. I became the MC for the night. The party went well. The birthday girl seemed to have a lot of fun. I had one of the best times dancing after a long time.

Really nice day with lots of beautiful memories indeed.

Style File – 25 Feb 2012 (Go Brumbies!)

I had a great time talking with a girlfriend until 5am this morning. It was so good to catch up after not having a proper catch up in years.

We even saw a tiny bit of Brumbies game on XBox 360 last night!

And surprisingly they won the game by 2 points!

That’s not the reason why I was buying & wearing the jersey though. It was because I was attending a friend’s birthday party with a footy themed.

This is what I was wearing during the day:

Style File – 24 Feb 2012 (IbuIbu Book Club)

It’s official that our IbuIbu book club has started!

This round, it was the book of my choice which was Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin. Even though some of us haven’t read the book, at least most of us have watched the movie.

We had a great meeting with a lot of discussion & laughters. The discussion was in Indonesian. Of course we also talked about other matters and it was a lot of fun.

This is what I was wearing to work & the book club earlier:

Style File – 23 Feb 2012 (Yay! Visitor)

Around a year ago we have decided to sell the extra bed in our guest bedroom and turn it into my dressing room instead.

The reason being was because the room has only been used twice over the years. Canberra doesn’t seem to be a very attractive city to hang out and my friends normally said “what would we do there?”. Good question and fair enough.

So nowadays if we (ever) have visitors, we’ll borrow our friend’s blow up bed for our second bedroom.

Today is my lucky day. First of all because my dear friend text me in the morning with a very touching words. I feel so grateful to have a friend like him in my life.

Secondly is because a dear girlfriend decided to visit Australia and stay with us in Canberra for 6 days!! Yay!! That is the longest record so far and I am so delighted 🙂

I’ll try my best to show her the lovely Canberra.

Today I was wearing:

Style File – 22 Feb 2012 (Blah!)

Sorry to vent but I feel so blah today. I have stopped Primolut yesterday & tomorrow will start with the Gonal-f (same with Pregnyl) hormonal injection.

Hence that’s where the blah! feelings comes from.

I was actually okay for half of the day at work then for the other half I just felt so slow when the hormones kicked in.

Luckily the Husband has been really patient & sweet :). Well… let’s see how this cycle of hormonal treatment will turn out.

Style File – 21 Feb 2012 (Bludgerdoom)

When things are back to normality after the holiday, my life seems to work like clock work.

I used to teach night classes, teaching private tuitions and study other things (like Chinese, Japanese , Sewing, Cert IV for Training & Assessments, etc) Mondays to Thursdays night after work so at those times I would arrive home at around 9.30 pm if not later.

Then, the Husband encouraged me to give my self a break from those activities a few months ago. At first, I thought what would I do with my spare time then? I don’t really like watching TV except for ABC News 24. I like TV series but don’t mind if I miss them. I can work on my class preparation but now that things are more organised, it takes me less time to prepare than it used to. Basically I couldn’t think what would I do if I don’t do anything after work!

When I stopped my activities, for the first few weeks it felt so wrong. I feel not very productive with my time and I feel guilty that I don’t learn something or earn something in my spare time.

After a while I got used to being a bludger and enjoying my free nights. I can organise more dinner parties at our place or go to movies or on a dinner date with the Husband on days other than Fridays. I am more relaxed and spend more quality time with the people that I care about.

Now.. I think it’s time to get busy again. It’s nice to relax but doing something gives me enjoyment.

So now the Husband & I are doing Swing dance two nights a week, I’ll be teaching night classes again in a few weeks and maybe I’ll take up French when the next term come up.

When that time comes, life returns again to normality for me.

Today I was wearing:

– Top from Review
– Skirt from Garfunkel
– Bag from Louis Vuitton
– Shoes from Charles & Keith
– Earrings from the Mets shop New York

Style File – 20 Feb 2012 (Metabolism Blues)

This morning the Husband & I started again our bootcamp session, weighing regime & calorie counting regiment.

I feel so grateful that the Husband encouraged me to do the bootcamp today to kickstart my week. It was hard and specially harder for me whose idea of exercising lately was floating in the pool.

When I was younger, I couldn’t really get it why (older) people are so obsessed about their diet. Now that I’m that (older) people, I understand why.

The reason is mainly because my metabolism is not as good anymore. In the old days even though I didn’t exercise as much, ate whatever I feel like, my weight was always around 44-45 kg anyway. For a 143cm tall girl like me, it was just right. I still have the proof of the tailor made dress that I used to be able to get into then.

Now that my BMI shows me in the overweight area, hard work needs to be done.

Not easy, but I’ll definitely write something in this blog once I achieve my target weight.

This is what I wore to my first day back at work today:
