Today we went snorkeling in three spots around Gili islands.
Firstly we worked out on what kind of transport that we were going to use for this. So, yesterday late afternoon we walked along the main street in Gili Trawangan and asked around about the options.
The more expensive option is hiring a private glass bottom boat for us and this costs Rp 1 million (A$ 110) for snorkeling package includes, start anytime we like, 3 stops of snorkeling place in Gili Air, Gili Meno & somewhere near Gili Trawangan, a guide to show us good spots, life jackets (if needed), goggles & fins. The total trip can go up to 5 hours.
The cheaper option is going by a “public” boat of around 30-40 people. It costs Rp. 100,000 (A$ 11), will stop in three location as well leave at 10.30 am and some places ask Rp 15,000 (A$ 1.70) for googles & fins hire.
We decided to go on the more expensive option because we had experienced snorkeling with a group when we visited Lembongan island and wasn’t very impressed by it.
For the $110 we had 4 crews attended to our needs!! So worth it! We can stop longer at Gili Air, have lunch at the local shop and went around the island by a horse carriage. We paid Rp 80,000 (almost A$ 9) for half an hour trip. There were nothing much to see and it was all just accommodation and restaurant. But the view were amazing!!
Food in Gili Air was reasonably cheap. We paid Rp 115,000 (A$ 13) for one fish dish, one chicken dish and two young coconut juice in their original shells.
I asked the Husband how he think of the snorkeling experience & he said he enjoyed the Tulamben experience more because there are more bigger fish there. On the contrary, I enjoyed this more because there were corals, turtle, & different kinds of really colorful fish. The only down point was I think we didn’t stay at one place long enough to explore. But to think of it again, the whole trip was about 4.5 hours total.
Just in case you are interested, I got some Contact numbers in Gili Trawangan.
Andy (the boat guy) +62 818 03792495
– well he Said he can give my friends special price next time.
Armand (the masseuse) +62 878 64660231
– I think he was okay and better than the beach side masseuse along Nusa Dua in Bali but the Husband thinks our masseuse in Canberra is much better (I agree!!). I gave him Rp 100,000 (A$ 11) for 1 hour massage. He can come to the hotel. His wife is also a masseuse so you can request either him or his wife.
This is what I wore to go snorkeling earlier:
– Hat from Forever New
– Swimsuit from St. John
– Batik skirt – no brand from a market in Jakarta
– Sandals & sunnies from Charles & Keith
– Bag from BCBG Max Azria
To close off the day, we had dinner at the Irish Pub. They serve wood fire pizza & so yummy. We had 4 drinks (3 cocktails) & 2 pizzas for Rp 300,000 incl tips (A$ 35). The cocktails in this place are around Rp 35,000 (A$ 4).
This is the view from our dinner table:
